Social Media on a Stick
For me to declare my favorite state fair would be like asking parents to pick a favorite child. Would they choose their first born? Maybe they would select the middle child who’s also a great cook? Or maybe the golden child, who can seemingly do it all? I’d say my three “children” are the Wisconsin (my home state), Minnesota, and Iowa State Fairs. I love them all for different reasons, but along with the great food, they appear to see the value in social media.
Check out the Facebook fan page for the Great Minnesota Get-Together, over 46,000 Fans and all sorts of interactive goodness going on. Yesterday they posted a link to their new “Merch Search” that allows visitors to find their favorite vendors before even stepping foot on the fairgrounds. While this tool is a great idea, I found it to be less than user-friendly. Try it and see what you think.
What’s great about social media is that it allows for very targeted marketing and user feedback. Everyone loves the state fair more than the next guy and they want to tell the world about it. I honestly couldn’t pick the Grand Champion of Fair Social Media, but maybe you can. Take a look at the links below and let me know which state fair does social media best and why by commenting here or via Twitter (@SpenceAnderson).
