Finnegans: The Beer That Gives Back
Have you ever heard of Finnegans Irish Amber? If you haven’t, I couldn’t think of a more fitting day to tell their story. While it’s not sold in Iowa, it may be worth the trip north if you’re looking to enjoy a beer from a brewery that gives 100% of their profits to local charities.
Finnegans was founded in 2000 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the goal of making a difference in and around the Twin Cities community. In 2003, the company became profitable and has since donated over $150,000 to their Community Fund, which gives grants to non-profits around the Midwest.
While I love the charitable side of the Finnegans story, I also admire the marketing and brand that has been developed. They’ve been quick to adopt social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and actually put them to use. Also, there are some interesting videos on YouTube to promote their “Pint-a-Thon” program.
Since I’ve discovered the beer, I’ve learned their story is already being highlighted nationally. Look for an interview on CNN Headline News with the air times here.
So next time you visit Minnesota, North Dakota, or Wisconsin stop into the store and pick up some Finnegans to help those in need. Until then, have a safe and happy St. Patricks Day!

While we’re on the subject of great beer not sold in Iowa, all beer lovers headed to WI any time soon need to stop on New Glarus and get some Spotted Cow. Trust me, you’ll love it.
