California Considers Advertising License Plates
(press play, then read) California knows how to party, but will the lyrics change to California knows how to advertise? The state of California is so broke the state legislature has passed Senate Bill 1453 and if the Assembly passes it, the new law would commission a study of electronic license plates for advertising and other communication.
Ultimately the California Department of Motor Vehicles would determine if this is viable or not. According to a release, a start-up company of three San Francisco residents would provide the back vehicle license plates to conduct the study. Each electronic plate could show messages or advertisements if the car is sitting motionless for several seconds, but the license plate number is always visible in the corner.
What do you think? Good idea? Good way to share your brand’
s message? Good way to start another traffic jam with texting 16 yr. olds and non-stop talking cell phone users? Tell us your thoughts.

will you be able to pick the make/model of vehicle you are advertising on? I’m guessign Armani won’t want their ad on a ’94 Geo Metro. I think it could be a great idea, but doubt it will cure Cali’s financial Woes

hmmm, you raise a good point. Perhaps they will offer demographic splits by type of car and presumed purchasing habits of a Geo driver versus a Bentley!

They are still broke after Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”? Really? I figured that song would get millions to move in creating more taxable revenue.
I think Glenn Beck said it best when talking of California. “I know states cannot secede from the union, but can we kick them out?”
Well said Mr Beck. Well said….

Why not pimp out the California State Trooper cruisers NASCAR style?
“Gonna have to call you back, bra, I gotta Miller Light cruiser tailing me. Dude’s rocking an Earnhardt Sr. mustache and looks ticked. Prolly not gonna turn out awesome.”
On second thought, that might not be so good for branding.
